In order to prevent and control the spread of the new crown virus, the Lao government announced on the evening of the 15th that it will once again extend the epidemic prevention and control period by 15 days to September 30.
The Deputy Director of the Lao New Crown Epidemic Prevention and Control Committee and Deputy Director of the Prime Minister’s Office Tipagun said at a press conference held in Vientiane, the capital, on the evening of the 15th. Currently, Vientiane and some other provinces have seen an increase in community-transmitted cases of the new crown, and most of the cases have been infected with the highly contagious Delta strain. In order to control the spread of the community, the Lao government decided to continue to implement the Prime Minister’s order on the prevention and control of the epidemic, and extended the curfew in Vientiane to the end of August.
The Lao government issued a Prime Minister's Decree on the prevention and control of the new crown epidemic on April 21 this year, including the closure of Vientiane for 14 days. Other provinces simultaneously strengthened the prevention and control of the epidemic and restricted the movement of people and economic activities. Since then, the epidemic prevention and control period has been extended several times, each time being extended by 15 days. This is the 10th expansion.
According to statistics from the Lao New Crown Epidemic Prevention and Control Committee, as of the 15th, the total number of confirmed cases of the new crown in Laos reached 17,905, with a total of 16 deaths.
